Luiz Carlos Carrera was born in São Paulo, lives and works for over 15 years in Florianópolis. In 1993 he earned a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering for Photolithography from the University of Montpellier in France. He was a university professor for many years and works as a planning analyst. An amateur photographer since the 80's, he has always been passionate about the magical and unusual effects of light in contact with materials and the infinite possibilities of combining colors and shades capable of arousing the observer's feelings.

A self-taught artist, he dedicates himself to photographic art, combining high-resolution photography of shapes and textures with illustration and digital manipulation. From the peculiar and original integration of several techniques present in the most advanced software in image treatment, his creative method transforms the simplest and most ordinary photographs into abstract expressionist art with his own style full of symbolism.

One can often observe the presence of a chaotic geometry composed of straight lines and curves that establish a dynamic and harmonic gradient to form a set full of organic contours of great vivacity. The cosmic symbolism and the formation of vortices are almost always present, permeated by a profusion of luminous colors and striking textures, usually broken harmonically by the presence of deep black capable of enhancing even more the contrast of color.
